Turnberry to receive facelift
Posted: 31 October 2008
It was announced today that Leisurecorp, has unveiled plans for its multi-million pound investment in refurbishing its latest planned property acquisition of Turnberry.
Internationally-renowned interior designer Mary Fox Linton is set to lead a project which will see the hotel restored to meet the vision of the original architect, James Miller. Working in conjunction with a heritage consultant, the refurbishment will ensure that the building’s heritage is maintained whilst delivering beautifully designed stylish hotel rooms and facilities.
The hotel will close tomorrow under its new ownership and reopen as a Starwood Luxury Collection hotel, prior to the 138th Open Championship in 2009. Of the 110 hotel rooms, plus 17 rooms in Turnberry House and 89 rooms in the lodges and cottages, Leisurecorp is aiming to deliver over 50 fully refurbished rooms, prior to the 138th Open Championship, with the balance to be completed by March 2010.
The Turnberry hotel, home to the Ailsa Course and host venue to the 138th Open Championship, closed its doors on 1 November to begin the multi-million pound interior refurbishment of the hotel and other amenities. The investment by Leisurecorp, which was announced earlier this year, will see the hotel closed for the winter, reopening in time for The Open in 2009.
