Hole 9 | "Bruce's Castle"

Par 4 | 449 Yards

The remains of the castle of Robert the Bruce-Scotland's king from 1306-1329-can be seen from the 9th green and 10th tees. There are no bunkers on this hole; however, it should not be underestimated. The fairway is raised in the middle and will throw shots to either side. The green has a steep slope off to the left and is also surrounded by mounds and hollows to grab mishit approach shots.

Perfect Play

This spectacular par 4 hole requires an accurate tee shot. With the prevailing wind helping there is no need to always hit a driver on this hole as accuracy is much more important than distance. A cairn stone can be seen from the tee that shows the centre of this fairway but it is a fairway that is notoriously hard to hit as it tends to throw balls left or right depending on where they land. Missing the fairway right or left can leave a difficult approach shot from an awkward lie. The perfect tee shot will leave a shot of only some 140 yards. The approach shot must be accurate as getting up and down from around this green is a daunting task. A large mound on the left side of the putting surface can make a putt from the front of this green extremely difficult.
